Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
New Smokey Mountain is the festering eyesore of Metro Manila, Philippines. A prodigious amount of rubbish is dumped here every day, which adults and children readily swarm over to seize whatever trash that may be recycled. Youths get killed by rubbish compactors accidentally now and then, and there are always people who languish from rubbish-caused diseases, but the criminals and paupers living here have no choice but to hang on to life and their dreams in this squalid environment. A Singaporean couple was so profoundly moved by their plight that they left a life of abundance behind, and resolutely joined the destitute residents of New Smokey Mountain, offering limited sustenance but unlimited love. Joanne Peh enters this infamous hellhole to experience the difficulties faced by this couple, as well as the compassion they choose to embody.

I just finished watching the show. I'm very shaken by the image of the boy who climbed up the truck.
Have been following the series for these few weeks and watching every episode makes me feel so grateful of all the things I have in life. All my problems seem so small as compared to those pp on the show. Yet, I'm sad that there seems to be nothing I can do to help them.

i teared/cried. thinking about how we spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars buying xmas presents for friends and family, we should just donate money under friends' names as xmas present maybe.

With the last episode of the activist journey, is there anyway that I can obtain the videos? Want to share it w my group if volunteers and spread the message apart from home poverty, but also host countries sufferings. Sincerely, Estelle

Having said so, what are the avenues to help these friends apart from physical help? Joanne did a good job, but the message cannot stop here...
