Vietnamese Wildlife Crusaders
Blessed with the richest diversity of biological species in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is also plagued by rampant smuggling of wildlife and wildlife products. Numerous wild animals are being hunted, among which black bears, pangolins, primates and snakes are brought to the brink of extinction. Neither cute nor gentle, these creatures are seen only as tonics to some, but there are also those who are willing to spend time and energy to protect them. They have formed Wildlife at Risk (WAR), a NGO devoted to protecting wildlife and upholding biodiversity in Vietnam and the world in general.

Joanne Peh follows these crusaders into the jungle to observe Vietnam’s amazing biological opulence. She also takes to the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, where she witnesses how they raid farms and restaurants involved in the illegal keeping, catching, killing and trading of animals in an effort to rescue endangered wildlife. Fresh outlooks on conservation issues unfold in the process.
